I've been waiting for Terminator: Dark Fate to go down in price on my cable plan.  Last night I pulled the trigger and finally rented it.

I am a Terminator groupee, if there is such a thing.  I've loved the concept since the first was released in 1984.  Yes, 1984.  I was just a youngin' back then.

Well this version is number three or number seven, depending on which history you choose to follow.  There are a few dramas or real life 'plot twists' to this enterprise, probably normal when you think about a series that has 'lasted' almost 40 years.

What drew me to earlier versions?  Well, I do like action and the concept.  The fact that the movie involves time travel.  The Terminator series was one of the first to go dystopian, a popular movie genre today.  A look into the melding of machine and human.

But more than the action, the explosions and the terminators, which are hard to take your eyes off of, THIS Terminator movie had some excellent morals I thought I'd share with you.  And, if you haven't seen the movie - the box office returns were poor, by the way - maybe it's time you dove in and gave it a look.

A really cool theme in the movie is it's inclusivity on the topic of immigration, in particular with the Mexican community.  The "s-hero" is a Latina woman.  How cool is that?

I had fun with this one, and you can too!

MORALS TO THE STORY: TERMINATOR: DARK FATE

  • The power of teamwork - in particular in this movie, lady power and the power of working together, even if you disagree and/or you are just different people with different agendas - for a larger cause.
  • The rise of the feminine - and women of color - in our world.
  • How you can be a hero and have gone through something horrible, and still others don't know all you accomplished and what you suffered.  The importance of telling your story because it most likely fits with solving problems now.
  • You can go through periods of giving up and hopefulness.  All important lives are full of both, the key is coming out on top more than not.
  • Lives with purpose have more meaning than lives without.
  • Making amends is powerfully healing, for the receiver and the giver.
  • The possible dangers of letting machines have increasing amounts of control. As Sarah Connor said: "We're not machines, you metal M F'er"
  • Putting aside your dislike of someone who took something very important to you, because they are now on your team and there is this very important cause you are working on together.
  • Kindness and compassion are always a help.
  • There is no fate but what we make for ourselves (Sarah Connor).
  • Sometimes we have to act individually, when no one else can, which in the process, teaches us great courage.  In the moment however, we may be scared out of our minds.
  • You can 'wear down' evil, if you persist.  Then it's easier to conquer and/or even destroy.
  • Some are the ultimate heroes, and will sacrifice it all for the greater good.
  • Even machines may be able to adopt a conscience (I know crazy right but the movie includes it so I am too).
  • There IS a cycle to life, a beginning, middle and end and, perhaps never fully 'ends'.  Life is a circle or a cycle. Or some even say, a spiral.
