I don't know about you but I've noticed something: whenever you hear someone - perhaps yourself - being blamed for something, do you ever wonder if this is correct or fair?

I've come to joke: if you are hearing on some level 'it's your fault' say by a doctor.  It's probably because he or she doesn't know how to help you more yet.  A lot of diseases are like that.  We just don't know enough and because of the insecurity that would be invoked if we said that it's just easier to place blame on the client ie: less powerful one than say the truth: it's nobody's 'fault' we just need to figure out the best way to approach something with what we know and can control.

Using 'fault' in your communication is a mistake.  It never works to get into the game of 'I'm right and you're wrong'.

It's much better to both be seen as having legitimate thoughts and feelings on an issue and come to a useful compromise.

Doctors need to be more mindful of how they talk to their patients.

One fertile area for improvement is weight loss.  It's amazing what I hear doctors and nurses too say to those who are struggling with obesity.

One day I know we will look back and realize how abusive we've treated the over weight.  As if they already have 'too much on their plate'.

Seriously though, the medical field needs to up their game when it comes to weight management.  Right now the only true option for most is surgery and for many that's too aggressive.  There are some new options on the horizon, which may better balance risk with results.

Stay tuned as I will be sharing much more with you on my journey of weight loss.
